What this step is
For {state}, title documents need to be signed in wet ink.
We’ll guide you through this step in a brief virtual appointment, so you can take care of it from home without mailing documents yourself.
Why it’s needed
Your vehicle title lists important details about your car, including the lender tied to your loan.
As the final step in your refinance, your new lender must be recorded on that title, so that depending on your state, your updated title can be either sent to your new lender or to you directly, with your lender notified of the update.
Caribou handles this step on your behalf in most cases, making the process easy.
How it works
The documents required by your state can be completed virtually during a scheduled video signing appointment. You’ll receive instructions by email or text to choose a time that works for you.
1. Join a Google Meet with a Caribou team member and turn on your camera.
2. Show your ID and answer a few questions to confirm your identity.
3. Receive a text from us with a secure link to the signing environment.
4. Open the link and use your finger or a stylus to sign the required documents.
5. We will confirm the signature looks good, and end the meeting.
Note: Before your appointment, join from a safe, stationary place where you can focus on the signing. If you’re driving, we’ll need to end the call and reschedule.
What you’ll need
Before your video signing appointment, make sure to have:
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone
- A reliable internet connection
- A quiet, well-lit place to join the call
- About 15 minutes for the appointment
What happens after
After you sign, Caribou reviews your completed documents and continues the title update process with your new lender.
