What this step is
In {state}, the documents needed to update your vehicle title can be completed online while you sign the documents for your new loan.
Caribou makes this process easy by including your title documents with the rest of your online signing. You won’t need to schedule a separate notary visit, print forms, or mail anything. Everything you need can be done online.

Why it’s needed
Your vehicle title lists important details about your car, including the lender tied to your loan.
As the final step in your refinance, your new lender must be recorded on that title, so that depending on your state, your updated title can be either sent to your new lender or to you directly, with your lender notified of the update.
Caribou handles this step on your behalf in most cases, making the process easy.

How it works
Your state allows the documents we will be using to update your title to be electronically signed, so we've included them in the rest of the documents to sign for your new loan:
1. You’ll review your refinance documents online.
2. Your title update documents are included in the signing package.
3. You’ll sign electronically.
4. Caribou reviews the completed documents.
5. We continue the refinance process, and contact you if anything else is needed

What you’ll need
For this process, you only need access to your online signing package and a device you can use to review and sign your documents.

What happens after
After the session takes place, the documents are added to your file and sent to your new lender as part of finalizing your refinance.
Once your old lender's loan is paid in full, Caribou will receive a title or notice from your old lender to pair with these documents, and send out to update the title to show your new loan.
In some states or situations, a final DMV visit may be required to complete this step.
