What this step is
In {state}, Caribou makes updating your vehicle title easy with documents you can complete through electronic signatures and notarization.
Our trusted online notary provider, Proof, is here to support that process in just a few minutes at no cost to you.

Why it’s needed
Your vehicle title lists important details about your car, including the lender tied to your loan.
As the final step, your new lender must be added to your vehicle title. Depending on your state, the updated title will be sent directly to your lender or to you with your lender notified.
Caribou handles this step on your behalf wherever we can, making the process easy.

How it works
Your state requires notarized documents. Caribou helps you complete this online in about 10 minutes with our partnership with Proof (at no cost to you):
1. You’ll receive a link by email or text.
2. You’ll join a live video session with an online notary.
3. You’ll show your ID to verify and authenticate your identity.
4. You’ll sign and date the title update documents electronically.
5. The notary will add a digital signature and seal, and Caribou will continue the title update process.

What you’ll need
Before your online notary session, have these items ready:
- A valid government-issued photo ID.
- A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone.
- A reliable internet connection.
- A quiet, well-lit place to join the video session.

What happens after
After the session takes place, the documents are added to your file and sent to your new lender as part of finalizing your refinance.
Once your old lender's loan is paid in full, Caribou will receive a title or notice from your old lender to pair with these documents, and send out to update the title to show your new loan.
In some states or situations, a final DMV visit may be required to complete this step.
